Kartinyeri v Commonwealth, another case that made Australian legal history.  In Kartinyeri the High Court of Australia was asked to decide whether the Commonwealth could make laws to the detriment as well as for the benefit of a race of people.  Any race of people, but in this instance the Aboriginal Peoples of South Australia.

The lead up to this case was epic.  There were fights with developers, governments losing elections, marinas going bankrupt and fights with First Australians first with the developers, then the government, then with each other, then a Royal Commission and then the Federal Court.

The web of stuff ups that led to the High court, I think is pretty interesting on its own.  In this video I explain what happened in the lead up and in a future post I explain the High Court case.
